Hospital bills and claiming
Heading to the hospital or recently returned? Learn how to manage hospital bills and make claims easily.
You generally won’t receive a hospital bill if:
your procedure was included on your health cover,
you went to an nib Agreement Hospital, opens in a new tab and your doctors participated in MediGap.
If you did receive a bill, please follow the prompts below to claim.
How to make a hospital claim
There are two ways you can make a claim depending on what the hospital or specialist has provided you with.
This does not apply to OVHC, opens in a new tab or OSHC, opens in a new tab members, who should send all bills directly to nib.
- Claim online with a Medicare Statement of Benefits
- Claim via Medicare
If you’ve claimed the service with Medicare or your provider has done so for you, request a Statement of Benefits from Medicare.
This takes about 10 days, and you can download it from your Medicare account via MyGov.
For medical claims, ensure you were admitted as an inpatient and attach your Medical Benefit Statement as proof.
