  • More than 106,000 Australians have accessed nib’s No Gap dental network since launch in July 2024, saving members $9.9 million

  • More than 90% of nib members live in an area that has a participating No Gap dental clinic

New data from leading private health insurer, nib, shows more than 106,000 Australians have accessed its No Gap dental network since its launch eight months ago. The initiative, which offers eligible members cover for preventative dental care, has already saved members $9.9 million1 in out-of-pocket costs.

The No Gap dental network covers essential preventative treatments such as examinations, scaling, cleaning, fluoride treatment, and diagnostics at over 250 practices across Australia2. More than 90% of nib members live in an area that has a participating No Gap dental clinic3, making it a highly accessible option for people looking to maintain their oral health, without the burden of additional costs.

nib knows dental care is a major cost for householders. Private health insurance can help make regular dental visits more affordable, ensuring oral health is taken care of without breaking the bank. James Barr, Chief Executive of Australian Private Health Insurance at nib, said preventative dental care should not be out of reach. “Our No Gap network removes some of the financial barriers that prevent people from booking regular check-ups and treatments,” said Mr Barr. “The agreements we have with dental clinics and the early uptake of nib’s No Gap network, shows that Australians are taking care for their teeth without worrying about out-of-pocket costs.”

When left untreated, dental issues can lead to more complex and costly problems. Offering cover for preventative treatment enables Australians to seek regular dental care, reducing the risk of major, costly dental procedures down the road. Rob McGrath, Group Chief Medical Officer at nib, emphasises the importance of dental health in overall wellbeing. “Poor oral health can lead to broader health issues, but regular check-ups can stop problems before they escalate,” Dr McGrath said. “Regular dental visits are crucial for preventing common issues like cavities and establishing good oral hygiene practices.”
