nib Group (nib) has announced a flood disaster relief package for nib members and a $50,000 donation to support the disaster response to the recent floods in south-east Queensland (QLD) and northern New South Wales (NSW).

Eligible members, including international workers, in flood-affected areas, can access a 30 day premium waiver and elect to suspend their policy for three months. Importantly, there are no waiting periods before members qualify.

nib Chief Executive - Australian Residents Health Insurance, Ed Close, said that with almost 400,000 nib members1 living in the region potentially impacted by the natural disaster, we’re happy to be able to support our members and the community during this time of need.

“We can only imagine the difficulty members in the region face; they have not only battled the COVID pandemic but have now been dealt another blow, with the devastation caused by these floods,” Mr Close said

“While health insurance premiums may not be top of mind right now, we hope this provides members who are impacted with some financial relief so they can focus on getting back on their feet,” he said.

nib foundation will also donate $50,000 to help support the disaster response and recovery efforts. nib employees are also doing their part, helping raise funds for the Australian Red Cross Flood Relief Appeal, with all employee donations matched by nib foundation.

The flood disaster relief package will be available* to nib members who:

  1. are an eligible nib member**before 4 March 2022;

  2. reside within a Local-Government Area (LGA) in south-east QLD, opens in a new tab and northern NSW, opens in a new tab that has been declared a natural disaster zone; and

  3. are receiving the Australian Government Disaster Recover Payment , opens in a new tabor the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance, opens in a new tab

This support is in addition to nib’s existing financial assistance, which includes a 30-day premium waiver and three-month financial suspension option for eligible members.

“By offering the flood disaster relief package on top of our existing financial support, it effectively means our members will have the option to extend their premium waiver or financial suspension period if they need to,” Mr Close said.

Members are encouraged to contact nib via phone (13 14 63) and ask for ‘financial relief’ to discuss available assistance.

“Having support is so important during times of crisis and we encourage anyone who needs help to contact our nib foundation partner, Lifeline, by calling 13 11 14, texting 0477 13 11 14 or visiting their website lifeline.org.au/floods,” Mr Close said.
