When it comes to understanding your private health cover, we aim to make it as simple as possible to know what you’re covered for and what you'll be forking out. So, to help answer some of the biggest questions and bust some of the biggest myths, here are the no-nonsense facts from us to help you get the most out of your policy.
How do I know what’s included in my cover?
Organising a camping trip to the outback? Joining the local footy team? Planning on starting a family? No matter what you've got planned (or unplanned), we've got an appropriate level of cover for you.
The good news is that most of our covers include unlimited emergency ambulance, so wherever you are across Australia, you’ll get the help you need, when and as often as you need it – that's the bottom line. Emergency ambulance costs are covered by the state government for residents of Queensland and Tasmania.1
Each level of nib Hospital Cover has a different set of inclusions. To check what else your nib policy covers and for important information like your hospital excess, log in to member account.
Health insurance shouldn’t be set and forget; if you want to confirm you have the right health insurance policy, contact our award-winning member service team on 13 16 42.
Can I choose which hospital I go to?
To minimise the out-of-pocket expenses our members could incur when visiting a hospital, we have agreements with most Australian private hospitals. These agreements mean we can reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for our members when they need hospital treatment. Use our online hospital search tool to find private hospitals we have agreements with.
If you choose to visit a public hospital, we'll cover the treatment in line with the benefits provided by your health cover however, it's important that you know in choosing a public hospital, you aren't guaranteed a private room and there may still be out-of-pockets if you go over your benefit limits.
If you're an nib member heading to hospital soon, make sure you check out our Going to Hospital page. This tool gives you information on health insurance, tips on how to reduce any out-of-pocket expenses and helpful questions to ask your specialist. To find out the details of your current policy, chat to someone about your upcoming hospital visit or get some guidance, call us on 13 16 42.
