Emergency ambulance claiming
Learn how to claim for emergency ambulance services.
About emergency ambulance cover
Medicare generally doesn’t cover ambulance costs, and depending on the state or territory you live in, you may be required to pay these fees yourself unless you have the right health insurance.
What is covered for emergency ambulance?
If your state government does not pay for ambulance cover, nib offers unlimited emergency ambulance cover on most Hospital and Extras covers, opens in a new tab. We also offer Ambulance only, opens in a new tab health cover.
Am I eligible for emergency ambulance cover?
Residents of Queensland and Tasmania^ or pension and health care card holders who have Ambulance services provided by State Ambulance Schemes are not covered.
How do you claim an ambulance bill?
In most cases you won’t receive an ambulance bill as nib and the state ambulance provider will handle the payment directly.
If you live in a state that provides ambulance services under a state scheme, you'll need to contact the ambulance provider to request a refund.
If you’ve already paid the ambulance bill, check out our guide on how to make a claim online for more details.
