Pregnancy and newborns

Planning for pregnancy can be full of surprises, so it's important to get the things you can control right - like making sure you have the right level of cover.

Back to Health information

What kind of health cover do you need for pregnancy?

Pregnancy isn’t covered under every nib policy, so you'll need to choose a Gold level cover, opens in a new tab, which includes pregnancy and birth-related services. This coverage ensures you receive the necessary support and care throughout your pregnancy and childbirth. If you’re planning to start a family or are already pregnant, be sure to review your policy to confirm it meets your needs.

What are the waiting periods for pregnancy and birth-related services?

If you’re a new member or have upgraded your cover, there’s a 12-month waiting period for pregnancy and birth-related services. If you're switching from another health fund and have met this waiting period, you won’t need to start over.

Ensure your cover includes pregnancy and is in place at least three months before trying to conceive, allowing time to complete the waiting period.
