Moving to Australia to study

If you’re coming to Australia to study, you need private health insurance to meet your student visa requirements.

If you’re going to be studying in Australia as an overseas student at a university or TAFE, you’ll need to apply for a student visa (subclass 500). This visa allows you to study and live in Australia for the duration of your education.

When you finish your studies, you can look to move to another visa if you wish to work in Australia or complete your postgraduate studies.

You’ll need Overseas Student Health Cover before you can apply for your student visa.
