Established in 2010, nib foundation’s partnership with OzHarvest has helped them become one of the Hunter region's most impactful food rescue operations. OzHarvest Newcastle’s Food Rescue program delivers remarkable results, with nib foundation funding helping deliver over 103,200 meals to those in need during FY24.

Operating across Newcastle and the Hunter region with a fleet of five vans, OzHarvest's Food Rescue drivers are making a significant difference in local communities. Their daily efforts have not only provided essential nutrition to people in need but also delivered impressive environmental benefits, preventing 51,600 kilograms of food from entering landfill and avoiding the same amount in CO2 emissions.

"Three years ago, we had 20 people lining up for food on a Friday. Now we have over 100," shares Sandra from Survivors R Us in Cardiff, highlighting the growing need for food support in the community. "We're supporting people who work, they have two incomes, they pay their bills, but there's nothing left for food."

Impact extends beyond just numbers. OzHarvest Newcastle has built a robust network of almost 120 local business food donors. Reach now spans from Raymond Terrace to Maitland, Cessnock, and Wyong, ensuring food rescue operations remain stronger than ever.

nib's commitment to OzHarvest goes beyond funding. In FY24, 211 nib volunteers actively participated in OzHarvest initiatives like Cooking for a Cause, where they transformed rescued ingredients into meals for local charities. It is a privilege for nib to help extend the reach of the Food Rescue program while also learning more about Oz Harvest’s vital work.
