The issue
The 2019/20 fire season has been one of the worst on record, seeing many communities across Australia severely impacted. In early 2020, NSW’s South Coast was heavily impacted by bushfires leaving thousands displaced and many properties lost.
Communities are now facing the tough challenge of rebuilding their communities both physically and emotionally.
The project
With large volumes of funding already raised for the immediate relief of those impacted by fires, we have partnered with MacKillop Family Services to support communities through the recovery period following a natural disaster, paying particular attention to the impact on children and their families.
Through our partnership, Mackillop will deliver their evidence-based programs, Stormbirds, opens in a new tab and Seasons for Growth, opens in a new tab. Both programs have successfully supported community recovery in the past and have been robustly evaluated showing strong results, particularly in supporting children post disaster.
The program will focus on some of the hardest hit schools on the South Coast of NSW in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley regions. The program aims to reach 30 primary schools across the two local government areas, reaching up to 4,500 children and their parents.
